CCC Cultural Arts Players Set To Perform Charles Dickens’ Classic, A Christmas Carol

This holiday season, the Clovis Community College Cultural Arts Series, The Citizens Bank of Clovis, and event sponsors John and Robyn Snowberger are excited to bring the classic Charles Dickens play, A Christmas Carol to Clovis for four performances, December 13-16.

For the first time since 2015, Cultural Arts Series Director Christy Mendoza has been working with CCC students and Clovis community members to bring the adaptation written by the late American playwright and novelist, Romulus Linney to the stage at the Norman & Vi Petty Performing Arts Center.

“It’s been a few years since we did our last play, and we are doing it in a movie theatre which has its own unique challenges such as no backstage space or dressing rooms. I love working with actors, so they are making my Christmas wishes come true,” said Christy Mendoza. “I also would like to mention the wonderful set that Wayne Davies has built all by himself out of cardboard and has done a terrific job.”

This adaptation features Ebenezer Scrooge’s journey from a bittered, ungenerous creature into a giving, caring human through devastating revelations by fantastic ghosts, an evolution towards spiritual salvation and in fun and overflowing good spirits.

Cast member and CCC’s Upward Bound Project Director, KellyAnn Weber said, “Being part of the CCC Cultural Arts Players has been a well awaited reintroduction into theater for myself. The nerves and anticipation all contribute to weave the story together as a company and have brought my theater kid out of hiding”.

The cast features Claire Burroughs as the Narrator, Chris Cummins as Ebenezer Scrooge, and Andrew Bjorklund as Tiny Tim. Over 20 other community members comprise the rest of the cast, with the play directed by Christy Mendoza and the technical and special effects done by Adam Penland.

Chris Cummins said, “Reprising my role as Scrooge brings back memories of doing theater before COVID. God, how I missed it. I am so glad we are back!”

A Christmas Carol tickets are now available for purchase at the CCC Cashiers Window on campus or by calling 575-769-4031. Purchasing tickets in advance is highly encouraged to guarantee seats and the Family Friendly Pass is only available ahead of time at the Cashiers Window.

Shows on December 13, 14, and 15 will start at 7 p.m. and tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for seniors/students/military. The showing on December 16 starts at 3 p.m. and tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for seniors/students/military. Family Friendly Passes are $45 for five tickets.
